The Full Scoop
This work therapy program is the original program that started TREC. Individuals with disabilities learn to interact with the horses in a relaxed working environment. Using rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows, the clients with special needs clean up to five, 20X50-foot runs. This can be done daily or weekly. The clients learn to complete a task in a timely manor. Positive behaviors and social skills are developed because they work in teams. Since the clients volunteer their time to clean the horses’ stalls TREC offers a free therapeutic riding session each scheduled time the clients come out.
Velvet Noses
This sensory stimulation program is designed for clients in wheelchairs who are unable to sit on a horse. By interacting with TREC’s equine staff, clients have the opportunity of hearing, smelling, touching and seeing how a horse behaves through grooming, leading and lunging horses.
